Hi Bob,
For us to better assist, we need to identify first as to why your Office apps keeps asking you to sign in. Kindly provide the following information:
- Can you tell us when did the issue start?
- Are you getting the said error message upon signing in?
- Have you recently changed your account password?
In the meantime, we recommend that you perform a clean boot in your Windows computer to eliminate software conflicts. You may refer to this link for the steps.
We look forward to your reply.

The problem started 2 days ago.
I can sign in OK. The problem is that the Office apps do not stay signed in. When I open Word or Excel, they require me to sign in. Even after signing in, if I open an existing file, then that too requires me to sign in again (otherwise upload to OneDrive fails).
I have not changed my account password.
A clean boot makes no difference.
I have also deleted all Office credentials in Windows, but that did not help.
As suggested in another thread, I selected the option to sign in with another account. I have only one account, so I selected the existed account. No effect.

Thank you for the information. Are you getting the same error message to all Office apps on your computer? Also, is your account uses @outlook.com as email domain?
In the meantime, we recommend that you open the Word or Excel app in safe mode to see if the issue persist. You may refer to this link for the steps.
We look forward to your update.

The same problem happens in all Office applications.
I am using a hotmail email address.
The problem persists in Office safe mode.
I tried unselecting and selecting the option in OneDrive's settings: "Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open". Office then stayed logged in for about a day. But now the problem has returned.

Hello Bob,
We would like to confirm, are you able to sign in to your Office profile page (same email and password) without errors?
If you are able to login to your account without problems, possible that there are application or registry files that are corrupted that might cause this concern.
If you have not performed it yet, we recommend that you follow th instructions on how to run SFC and DISM from ZigZag3143 's article: (click here).
Once done, re-install the affected apps.
Should you need further assistance. Feel free to reply on this thread.

I can sign in to my Office profile page OK.
I ran both SFC and DISM. Neither found any errors.
The occurrence of sign in issues has been decreasing, though it has not disappeared entirely. I suspect that the cause of the problem is at the Microsoft server end, rather than anything at my end.

I have been having the same problem. Excel and Word ask me to sign in every time, and opens with a pop-up the says there are new features, "accept and open..". EVERY TIME. It keeps asking me to sign in, even though my name is displayed at the top right,
showing that I am signed in.
